Commander EUFOR, Major General Maurizio Fronda, attended the KFOR Change of Command ceremony at Camp Film City in Pristina on 14th October 2026.

During the ceremony, Major General Özkan Ulutaş transferred command of KFOR to Major General Roberto Vergori of the Italian Army. The event brought together senior representatives from NATO, KFOR, EUFOR and participating nations, highlighting the close cooperation between international security organisations operating across the Western Balkans.

With Major General Vergori assuming command of KFOR and Major General Fronda currently commanding EUFOR Operation ALTHEA, Italian commanders now lead both international military missions in Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina respectively.

Security in the Western Balkans is a shared responsibility. While EUFOR and KFOR operate under separate mandates and chains of command, both missions contribute to the broader effort to preserve peace, stability and security across the region.

Regular dialogue and cooperation between EUFOR and KFOR strengthen mutual understanding, support regional situational awareness and help ensure that international security actors remain closely connected to developments across the Western Balkans.

Major General Fronda’s attendance underlined EUFOR’s commitment to maintaining strong professional ties with KFOR and other international partners. Continued cooperation, trust and engagement remain essential to supporting long-term stability in the region.

EUFOR remains committed to supporting the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina in maintaining a safe and secure environment, while contributing alongside international partners to wider peace and stability across the Western Balkans.
