COM EUFOR, Major General Maurizio Fronda, met with representatives of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights Election (ODIHR) Observation Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, led by Head of Mission Tana de Zulueta.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the OSCE/ODIHR delegation to present the structure and methodology of its Election Observation Mission ahead of the General Elections scheduled for 4 October 2026.
The mission is led from Sarajevo and includes a core team of international experts, 26 long term observers deployed across Bosnia and Herzegovina, with additional short term observers requested to support election day observation activities.
During the discussion, COM EUFOR and the delegation also exchanged views on the general security environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the period leading up to the elections and the immediate aftermath, to assess whether the elections are held in line with OSCE commitments and other international obligations and standards for democratic elections, as well as with national legislation.
Head of Mission Tana de Zulueta brings extensive experience in international election observation, having led numerous OSCE/ODIHR election observation, assessment and expert missions in Europe and beyond.
The engagement formed part of EUFOR’s continued dialogue with international organisations and institutions operating throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina. Maintaining close communication and a shared understanding of the security environment contributes to effective coordination during important national events. EUFOR remains focused on its mandate to support the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina in maintaining a safe and secure environment for all citizens.
