On the 10th of September the Austrian Minister of Defence and Sport Mr Gerald Klug together with the Governor of Burgenland Mr Hans Niessl visited EUFOR Camp Butmir. He received an honor guard as he was greeted by COM EUFOR Major General Johann Luif. Mr Klug has held the position since 2013.

In an office call with General Luif, Mr Klug discussed the mission, before meeting with Austrian soldiers serving within the EUFOR Multinational Battalion and those operating EUFOR helicopters. Before leaving he also paid his respects to Austrian soldiers who lost their lives serving in the region at a memorial within Camp Butmir, laying a wreath.

Austria is a significant troop contributor to EUFOR, and has men and women working in almost every facet of the mission including the Capacity Building & Training of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AFBiH). This effort to develop the skills and abilities of the AFBiH is the main effort of EUFOR, supporting Bosnia and Herzegovina as it progresses from being a security consumer to a security provider.
