EUFOR rescued four Slovenian paragliders from mine field

At 1510 hours on 30th October EUFOR was requested by the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia in Sarajevo, HE Andrej Grasselli, to provide air medical evacuation at the area of Jahorina. Four Slovenian paragliders had landed on a steep slope in a mine field. One of the paragliders was seriously injured.


At 1600 hours two EUFOR helicopters from Camp Butmir’s Austrian Helicopter Detachment were deployed after immediate approval of Commander EUFOR, Major General Bernhard Bair. Together with a ground rescue team from local authorities a Medical Evacuation Helicopter type Alouette III and a Search and Rescue Helicopter type Alouette III started to evacuate the personnel. The recovery had to be conducted in difficult terrain under night vision conditions and using helicopter winches.

At 1715 hours the injured person was flown to Kosevo clinic Sarajevo for further treatment. The three uninjured Slovenian paragliders were safely brought to EUFOR Camp Butmir.
