It is a great honour for me to be appointed as the Commander of EUFOR Operation Althea and to take command of the longest military operation under the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy, to date the only EU land operation with an executive mandate.
This is a great responsibility and I thank the EU Operation Commander for EUFOR Althea, Lieutenant General Brice Houdet, for having the confidence in me to lead the European Union Forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
EUFOR is a strategic EU asset with a stabilizing influence in the region. However, there is still much to be done and I look forward to facing the challenges and complexities ahead, delivering on the UN Security Council Mandate. Under my command EUFOR will maintain its close relationship with BiH security providers, in particular with the the Armed Forces of BIH, to ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone.
Major General Trischak has set a high standard in his dealings with local and international politicians. I will do everything in my power to build on the excellent work carried out by my predecessors and proceed with the efforts to reach an acceptable end-state within the mandate and facilitate BiH’s way to European integration. The way ahead will not be an easy one, but I am looking forward to drive the mission forward for the good of BiH and its people.
