‘Dual use of Forces’

Brigadier General Radovan Ilic, Commander of the 6th Brigade, gave COM EUFOR a welcome briefing detailing the mission and structure of the 6th Brigade and its main tasks. These include participating in Peace Support Operations and assistance to local authorities in case of natural disaster, meaning the force can be used to support local authorities in the two separate roles. This second capability was seen during the 6th Brigades efforts during the flooding of last year.

Providing advice and assistance

The leader of the EUFOR EAT Polish Lieutenant Colonel Zbigniew Brzęczkowski then gave a presentation on his team’s contribution. He described their mission to assist in building a self-sustainable, NATO compatible training system that will have an enduring capability. The team also works assisting in preparation for exercises such as Dynamic Response. After the briefing COM EUFOR was given a tour of the 6th Brigade museum, which included a monument to soldiers who lost their lives fighting within Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Capacity building and training

EUFOR provides EAT to support the AFBiH as part of its Capacity Building & Training programme. This is the central part of EUFOR’s mission within Bosnia and Herzegovina. Through joint activities with AFBiH, experienced multinational teams pass on their knowledge and experience in accordance with the highest international standards.
