The aim of the meeting, held on 17th October 2014, was to spread information within the Capacity Building and Training Division (CBTD) about the division’s responsibilities, and to assess the goals reached during the last two months. Future training activities were also discussed.
All members of the CBTD, including the Embedded Advisory Teams (EATs), attended the meeting, as well as representatives from Policy & Plans and Operations Division (OPSD). After the opening remarks by Col. Hakan Soner APLAK (TR Army), DCOS CBT, the organization, newcomers, areas of responsibility within CBTD, and essentially the ongoing and future activities were briefed, followed by presentations by the different Branch Heads of the Division.

LTC Thorbjörn HAGMAN (SE Army), Chief of Training Planning and Coordination Branch (TPCB), also presented the training results and statistics up until the end of September.
In total, 32 training sequences have been provided to the AFBiH from the start of 2014
(Phase:s Training = 12, Mentoring = 14, Monitoring = 6);
In total, 467 AFBiH personnel have been trained since the start of 2014:

  • Training = 141 Students;
  • Mentoring = 64 Instructors, 174 Students: 238 Total;
  • Monitoring = 35 Instructors, 53 Students: 88 Total.

In 2014, 10 EATs provided advisory and assistance to the AFBiH (JS AFBiH, JS LL, OP CMD, SPT CMD, 4th INF BDE, 5th INF BDE, 6th INF BDE, TCT SPT BDE, AIR ADV, TRADOC). Information about this year’s forthcoming capacity building and training events was shared with an extra focus on the “Capacity Building and Training Assessment Conference”. This conference is scheduled to take place in Camp Butmir (4th and 5th November 2014) between CBTD and AFBiH, with participation from European Union Staff Group (EUSG), NATO HQ SARAJEVO and Office of Defense Cooperation (ODC) representatives.
An important contribution to the meeting was made by the P&P representative, who provided valuable and comprehensive information regarding the operational planning process.
The OPSD representative expressed, on behalf of DCOS OPS, full support for good cooperation in the field of the next common training activities (combined training between MNBN and AFBiH). During these activities Training Branch will participate actively, as in the past, with the training officer, CIS, engineering, infantry specialists and exercise advisor.
The desired end state was that all members of CBTD will have an overview of the division’s activities and broad-spectrum knowledge about EUFOR development. After closing remarks and guidance was given by DCOS CBT to the members of the Division, a photo session with CBTD’s personnel was held.
