A Change of Command ceremony for the Austrian National Contingent was held on 26 May 2026 at Camp Butmir in Sarajevo. During the ceremony, Colonel Hermann Steinkogler officially assumed the position of Austrian Contingent Commander and Chief JMA within EUFOR, taking over the responsibilities from Colonel Gebhard Leitner.
The event was attended by the Commander of EUFOR, Major General Maurizio Fronda, alongside distinguished military and civilian representatives from both the national and international community.
The ceremony marked the continuation of Austria’s longstanding commitment to EUFOR’s mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina and its support to maintaining a safe and secure environment. EUFOR remains committed to working closely with its international partners in contributing to stability and cooperation throughout the country.
