The Chair of the European Union Military Committee, General Seán Clancy, and the Chair of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, accompanied by Operational Commander for the European Union Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lieutenant General Ludovic Pinon de Quincy and Commander of EUFOR, Major General Maurizio Fronda, met with the Chief of the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lieutenant General Gojko Knežević, the EU Special Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina H.E. Ambassador Luigi Soreca and the NATO Political Engagement Support Cell (PESC) Head of Mission H.E. Ambassador Vladimir Vučinić, today in Sarajevo.
During the meeting with the Chief Joint Staff of the Armed Forces of BiH, the leaders highlighted the importance of joint engagement, regular information exchange, and ongoing training and capacity-building efforts, which contribute to enhanced interoperability and operational effectiveness. This cooperation remains essential in supporting domestic institutions, strengthening resilience, and ensuring Bosnia and Herzegovina sovereignty.
In the meetings with Ambassador Luigi Soreca and Ambassador Vladimir Vučinić, discussions were focused on the current security landscape by reaffirming the importance of close coordination between EUFOR and NATO Headquarters Sarajevo, within the framework of Berlin Plus Arrangements, as well as their strong and continuous partnership with the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina and all other national security institutions. The leaders emphasized that EUFOR's presence in BiH is a clear and visible sign of the EU's commitment to stability and security in the country and that EUFOR’s capacity as a multinational force is essential in supporting BiH institutions to maintain a safe & secure environment for all citizens of BiH. Furthermore, Ambassador Soreca highlighted that EUFOR is an integral part of EU's comprehensive approach, nothing that EUFOR and EUSR function effectively as "two sides of the same coin".
The high-level visit concluded with a shared message of unity and determination. Bosnia and Herzegovina have made remarkable progress over the years and EUFOR’s mission clearly illustrates how we have helped maintain peace and fostered stability under the framework of the Dayton Peace Agreement. EUFOR and NATO, in close cooperation with the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, remain fully committed, engaged, and ready to respond to any potential security challenges, continuing to uphold long-term peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
