Gender equality is a fundamental principle of the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy. Over the last decade, the United Nations Security Council has adopted seven resolutions on women, peace and security - highlighting some of the particular impacts of armed conflict on women and calling on states and UN institutions to ensure the full inclusion of women and their needs and perspectives in peace-building. UN Security Council Resolution (SCR) 1325 particularly recognizes the negative impacts that armed conflict has on women and the underlines the importance of contributions that women can make to peace, security and reconciliation.
On 14 November 2013 Major General Dieter Heidecker, the Commander of EUFOR welcomed Colonel Alain Duschéne, Deputy Commander Luxembourg Army, for his last official visit to Camp BUTMIR. During the Office Call, COM EUFOR thanked Colonel Duschéne for Luxembourg’s support to EUFOR - lately with one Senior Non-commissioned Officer (NCO), Warrant Officer Joseph Bredimus, in the position of the Headquarters Regimental Sergeant-Major (HQ/RSM), the most senior Warrant Officer and primarily responsible is for maintaining standards and discipline.
On Wednesday 13 November 2013 Major General Dieter Heidecker visited the Ammunition Transportation Safety Course (ATSC) at RAJLOVAC barracks.
Staff from EUFOR’s Capacity Building and Trainings Division, consisting of Swiss Armed Forces personnel, worked with the Armed Forces of BIH (AF BiH) instructors to train 20 of their fellow soldiers.
On 13 November 2013, Brigadier General Wolfgang Richter, Allied Joint Force Command Naples Assistant and Chief of Staff for Civil Military Cooperation and military partnership met with the Commander of EUFOR, Major General Dieter Heidecker. The aim of General Richter’s visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina was to get an on-the-ground assessment of the latest developments in BiH in the partnership arena and to receive an update on the constraints of the environment in which EUFOR and NATO operate. Major General Heidecker briefed his guest about the key tasks of Mission Althea, namely EUFOR’s provision of expert advice in the framework of Capacity Building and Training (CB&T) to the Armed Forces of BiH (AF BiH) and EUFOR’s support to the ongoing process of reduction of surplus ammunition and weapons stocks within BiH.
On 13 November, the Peace Support Operations Training Centre (PSOTC) in cooperation with EUFOR opened a conference on Gender in the Security Sector of BIH. The aim of the conference, which will take place over two days, is to ‘Strengthen the Gender Perspective within the security sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina’. The conference was opened with statements from Mr. Zekerijah Osmić, BIH Minister of Defense, Major General Dieter Heidecker, the Commander of EUFOR, Major General Anto Jeleč, Chief of the Joint Staff of the AF BiH and Lieutenant Colonel Rob Tomlinson MBE the UK Defense Attaché.
