The first Armed Forces of BiH (AF BiH) and EUFOR CIS Conference, which took place in Camp Butmir on 28 Jan 2014, was a success for both AF BiH and EUFOR. The conference was organized by EUFOR Capacity Building and Training Division (CBTD) and chaired by the Training Chief, Lt Col Johan Bouhuys. This conference was a milestone for the last year of CBT and was attended by AF BiH representatives from different BiH entities including Joint Staff, Operational Command, Support Command, Tactical Support Brigade, 4/5/6 Infantry Brigade, Signal Battalion, Air Force and Air Defense and TRADOC.
Building the capacity of the transport structure in the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AF BiH) to meet the current requirements and interoperability with the Armed Forces of other countries is one of the tasks of EUFOR.
Movement Control Specialists from EUFOR’s JMA and the Polish Mobile Mentoring Team (MMT) organized a course for AF BiH transportation personnel in the AF BiH Movement Coordination Centre in Doboj. The aim of this course is to train AF BiH transportation personnel in the field of NATO military transport procedures and the group consisted of eight officers and one NCO from different AF BiH units.
From 13-24 January 2014, two NCO instructors from the Armed Forces of BiH (AF BIH) and a EUFOR Turkish contingent Mobile Monitoring Team (MMT) conducted a ten day Microwave & Satellite Communications course for members of AF BiH. This course was the first CIS training course in a series of 11 planned for the 2014. There were 13 trainees on the course, three officers and ten NCOs, which took place at the Tactical Support Brigade Barracks in Rajlovac.
One of the tasks of EUFOR, is to train Armed Forces of BiH (AF BiH) personnel to work in the transportation branch, to improve the capacity of AF BiH and to enable greater interoperability with the Armed Forces of other nations.
To this end, the Polish Mobile Mentoring Team (MMT) organized a training course at the AF BiH Movement Coordination Centre (MCC) in Doboj from 28 Jan to 24 Dec 2013. The instructors were AF BiH officers from MCC in Doboj who themselves were mentored by the Polish MMT in a tailored Train the Trainer course.
The EUFOR Capacity Building & Training (CB&T) Branch began 2014 with the launch of the CIS Microwave & Satellite Communications Course for members of the Armed Forces of BiH (AF BiH). The course commenced on 13 January 2014 at the Tactical Support Brigade in Rajlovac and will be completed by 24 January 2014. This course is also the first CIS training in a cycle of 11 training events planned in the 2014 AF BiH Training Calendar. The training is given by two AF BiH instructors and mentored by a Turkish Mobile Mentoring Team and the training audience consists of 13 participants who all successfully completed the first CIS Microwave & Satellite Communications Course at the Signal Battalion in Pale in 2012.
On 16 December 2013, a medal parade was held for the Austrian and Hungarian soldiers of EUFOR’s Multinational Battalion (MNBN) who will soon conclude their tour of duty with Operation ALTHEA and their Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Christoph Blasch. The parade, commanded by Major Andras Palatinus, commenced with the traditional marching in of the colours of the MNBN, followed by an inspection of the troops by the Commander EUFOR, Major General Dieter Heidecker and the raising of the EU flag.
On 12 December 2013 Dr. Csaba HENDE, the Minister of Defence of Hungary, accompanied by members of the Hungarian Ministry of Defence led by Brigadier General Zoltán MIHÓCZA, Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS), Joint Forces Command Hungarian Defence Forces, visited EUFOR HQ at Camp BUTMIR in SARAJEVO. The minister was first welcomed by the Hungarian Senior National Representative (SNR) and Chief of Staff EUFOR, Brigadier General József SZPISJÁK, the Deputy Hungarian SNR, Colonel Ferenc FARKAS, and the Hungarian Contingent Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Gabor BARTOK. Brigadier General Szpisják briefed the Minister on the latest activities of EUFOR, particularly with respect to capacity building and training activities, but also on the developments regarding joint training exercises conducted between the Multi-National Battalion, currently consisting of one Hungarian and one Turkish Infantry Company, and the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
On 10 December 2013 it was time for Colonel (GS) Klaus Jäger to hand over his responsibilities to his successor Colonel (GS) Dieter MUHR. Colonel Jäger, in the course of the last six months, not only was in charge of the Joint Military Affairs (JMA) branch but he was also the Austrian Senior National Representative (SNR) and National Contingent Commander (NCC), and therefore responsible for the entire Austrian National Element (AUTNE) and the presently 200 Austrian military personnel serving with EUFOR Althea in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
