|COM EUFOR and Minister Sikorski passing through Guard of Honour.|
A Guard of Honour comprising of all the EUFOR contributing nations and COM EUFOR, Major General Bernhard Bair, welcomed Mr Radosław Sikorski, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland to Camp Butmir. The minister was accompanied during his visit by the Polish Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina His Excellency Mr Jerzy Chmielewski, Ms Marta Stachowiak, Deputy Director of Minister’s Cabinet, Ms Anna Sochańska, Deputy Director of Department for European Policy and Ms Emanuela Suprowicz, Deputy Head of Mission.
During the subsequent Office Call, Major General Bair briefed the delegation on current situation in the country and the status of Operation Althea, the name of the EUFOR mission in BiH. They engaged in a wide ranging set of discussions about EUFOR’s role as the military component of the overarching European Security and Defence Policy mission in BIH, EUFOR tasks and capabilities in support of BiH’s efforts to maintain the safe and secure environment. COM EUFOR explained that an important enabler of this is maintaining situation awareness through the Liaison and Observation Teams (LOT). They concluded by discussing the continuing co-operation with the AF BiH in a number of areas such as training.

Major General Bernhard Bair, COM EUFOR, welcomed Major General Robert Löwenstein, Commander of 1St Air Force Division, to EUFOR Headquarters today, 9th May. Major General Löwenstein is very familiar with the HQ having served twice as COS EUFOR HQ in 2008 and 2009.
The two generals held discussions during which COM EUFOR praised the high standard of the German troops serving in EUFOR. He went on to thank the German Republic for their continuing support to Op Althea. Germany is strongly committed to the Mobile Training Team concept. They discussed the possible German contribution to open Force Elements related to Air Medical Evacuation and Air Crew and Maintenance training in EUFOR.
Major General Löwenstein was visiting Camp Butmir to undertake discussions with German personnel serving in EUFOR HQ.
