Christa Markwalder pays visit to Major General Dieter Heidecker
On 02 August 2013, Christa Markwalder, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, accompanied by the Commander Swiss Armed Forces International Command SWISSINT, Colonel Fridolin Keller, and Brigadier General Werner Epper, Chief of Air Staff, paid a visit to EUFOR Headquarters in Camp BUTMIR in Sarajevo, where they were warmly welcome by the Commander EUFOR, Major General Dieter Heidecker. During an office call, General Heidecker apprised M.P. Markwalder and her party of recent EUFOR activities and emphasized his appreciation for the valuable contribution of the Swiss soldiers to maintaining the safe and secure environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
On 31 July 13 Brigadier General SZPISJÁK met with the Director for the Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH to discuss the continued support that EUFOR provides and to exchange information. The Chief of Staff EUFOR, Brigadier General József SZPISJÁK met with Mr Himzo Selimovic, the Director for the Coordination of Police Bodies in BiH. This meeting was part of a series of meetings which aims to continue the close cooperation between EUFOR and the Law Enforcement Agencies (LEA) and to develop a coordinated approach to exchanging information and working together in joint operations.
A group of students from the Austrian Academy for Peace and Security in Europe paid a visit to EUFOR Headquarters at Camp BUTMIR on 04th July 2013. They received a briefing on current political and military issues in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) from Staff Officers. COM EUFOR, Major General Dieter Heidecker addressed the group, and praised their efforts in gaining a better understanding of the problems existing in this part of Europe.
On 03 July 2013 Major General Dieter Heidecker welcomed Slovenian Defence Minister, Roman Jakič, to an official meeting in Camp BUTMIR in SARAJEVO. The Commander of the European Force in Bosnia and Herzegovina (EUFOR) and the Minister discussed Slovenia’s contribution to EUFOR’s military tasks, regional co-operation in the Western Balkans and engagement in relation to the region.
Minister Roman Jakič had arrived on 02 July 2013 in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), following an official visit to Montenegro, where he started with a visit to his Bosnian counterpart, Minister of Defence Zekerijah Osmić.
The ceremony was attended by numerous delegations, ambassadors and diplomats, as well as the EUFOR Commander, Major general Dieter Heidecker.
The anthems of the EU and Croatia, performed by the Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra, added a wonderful sense of nostalgia to the event, as the Croatian flag, brought by the Military Attaché, fluttered from the stage.
The visiting Head of the Chilean Joint General Staff, Lieutenant General Hernán Mardones Ríos, inspected the Chilean Army contingent deployed in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) under the command of the European Union’s EUFOR Althea peace support operation.
