|Preparation of the hand grenade bundles by Hungarian EUFOR EOD|
On 28 August 13, the Hungarian EUFOR EOD Team destroyed 120 hand grenades (URG-86) at the demolition site Kalinovik.
The entire operation was carried out in close cooperation with the Republika Srpska Civil Protection Agency and Kalinovik Police Station.
On 22 August 13, EUFOR received a request for the use of its resources to aid the Ministry of Security in its efforts to halt a wildfire in the area of Jablanica. Acting Commander of the EU Force, Col Fatih ILHAN, said “EUFOR stands ready to assist BiH and its efforts to halt the wildfire which has been active since 3 August 13.”
On 11 July 2013 Commander of EUFOR, Major General (MG) Dieter HEIDECKER, visited the Memorial Centre Srebrenica- Potocari – where 18 years ago forces attacked the UN-protected ‘safe area’ of Srebrenica, and subsequently committed genocide by killing around 8,000 men and boys and forcibly expelling around 30,000 women, children and elderly people.
All senior representatives from the International Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) were in attendance including the High Representative to BiH, Valentin Inzko, Presidency Member for BiH Bakir Izetbegović, EU Special Representative Peter Sörrenson, and Commander NATO HQ Sarajevo, Brigadier General Merle D. Hart.
In partnership with the Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the United Nations Development Programme, as well as the OSCE Mission to BiH, the European Union will help to destroy some of the enormous quantity of military ammunition surplus in BiH – 17,000 tonnes.
The AF BiH Demining Battalion received 54 protective jackets, 300 visors and 3000 batteries for their detectors. This has increased the stock of equipment which can be used for demining activities in BiH. In previous years the de-miners from Rajlovac received 60 metal detectors, 7,400 batteries, 11 explosive detection dogs (EDDs) – with food and veterinarian support and a large amount of spare parts.
On 26 JUN 2013, the EUFOR Lessons Learned (LL) Embedded Advisory Team conducted a one–day seminar in the 5th Infantry Brigade Barracks DUBRAVE near TUZLA.
During the seminar, students were presented with topics relating to the introduction of NATO LL Systems and Processes. Additionally the flow of information in the AF BiH LL System and the responsibility of LL Staff Officers at various levels of the armed forces was also covered.
