EUFOR Football Cup Winners return for the United Kingdom
The winners of EUFOR’s Football Competition in 2010, Banovići Primary School arrived back from London on 10th April 2011. The competition organized by the EUFOR staff and run in close co-operation with the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina saw 192 teams from across the whole country competing for the cup. Banovići Primary School won a close match in the final to claim their prize of a trip to London.  A number of prizes were donated by the countries contributing troops to the EUFOR Mission and the local embassies in Sarajevo.

COM EUFOR visits schools to collect entries for Art Competition

Major General Bernard Bair, the Commander of EUFOR visited two High Schools today, 16 March, to meet children who are participating in the EUFOR Schools’ Art Competition.

Drawing a New Future

The Commander of EUFOR Major General Bernard Bair was delighted to visit “Silvije Strahimir Kranjcevic” school in Sarajevo and “Jovan Ducic” school in East Sarajevo on Friday 11 March 2011 in support of the EUFOR Schools’ Competition.  This year’s competition has two themes: “Europe without Borders” and “Children of the European Union”.

EUFOR Hosts Sarajevo Mayors in Camp Butmir

On 11th February 2011, COM EUFOR hosted a lunch in Camp Butmir. Mr Alija Behmen (Mayor of Sarajevo) and Mr Vinko Radovanović (Mayor of East Sarajevo) together with Mr. Milorad Kojović (Secretary of the City Administration of Sarajevo), and Mr. Igor Golijanin (Chef de Cabinet of the Mayor of East Sarajevo) met with Major General Bernhard Bair and his staff.

COM EUFOR brought them up to date with developments in the Camp especially as EUFOR is a major employer in the area. He also expressed his pleasure to see the two Mayors working closely together in a number of areas, for example the forthcoming World Military Skiing Championships. Both Mayors indicated a willingness to continue their commitment to work together on common projects.

EUFOR Cup Runners Up Depart for Germany

On 11th February 2011, the Mustafa Ejubović Šejh Jujo Primary School from Mostar departed from Sarajevo Airport on route to Germany to see FC Wolfsburg play. Their 3 day trip, sponsored by the Club and Volkswagen, was their prize for reaching the finals of the 2010 EUFOR Cup which concluded in November.

192 teams started the competition and Mustafa Ejubović Primary School reached the final held in the Zetra stadium where they unfortunately were beaten by Banovići Primary School in a close match.

Whilst in Germany they will be hosted by the Bundesliga team and will be guests at a match this weekend.

Bishop of Tuzla and Zvornik hosts COM EUFOR Visit

On the 10th February 2011, COM EUFOR, Major General Bernhard Bair, was the guest of Bishop Kacavenda, the Bishop of Tuzla and Zvornik, at the Bishop’s palace in Bijeljina.

During their meeting the Bishop was able to inform COM EUFOR on the progress being made returning displaced persons to their homes and the challenges that he faces.  A wide ranging discussion took place on topical issues of interest between COM EUFOR and Bishop Kacavenda.

COM EUFOR congratulated him on his sterling work and wished him all the best in his future endeavours.
