Major General Bair, COM EUFOR and Mr Brammertz, Chief Prosecutor of the ICTY joined by Lt Col Mulligan, Mr Tucker and Mr Swinnen

Major General Bernhard Bair, COM EUFOR welcomed Mr Serge Brammertz, Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) to the EUFOR HQ on 12th April 2011. Mr Brammertz became the Chief Prosecutor of ICTY on 1st January 2008.

Lt Col Broeksma presents the first copy of the guidelines to the Director of BHMAC, Mr Gavran

As part of the International Mine Action Day events in Bosnia and Herzegovina, members of EUFOR visited a de-mining site in Hadzici.  There they witnessed a demining operation demonstration before presenting the new safety guideline manuals to the de-miners.
Lieutenant Colonel Broeksma of EUFOR’s Joint Military Affairs Branch, stated, “That EUFOR supports the vision to have BiH free of mines by 2019 but that it will require the appropriate budget and the involvement of both the general public and the politicians.”

On 23rd March 2011, COM EUFOR, Major General Bernhard Bair presided over a ceremony to mark the Hand Over/Take Over of his Chief of Staff. Members of the EUFOR HQ participated in a parade outside of the HQ building where they witnessed Brigadier General Günter Giesa formally handover this important position to Brigadier General Nagy.

Colonel Phelan receives his Op ALTHEA medal from COM EUFOR

The Irish contingent of EUFOR started their Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations by presenting COM EUFOR with a Shamrock. The 17th March is the Irish National Day and the presentation of a Shamrock is a long standing tradition in the Irish Defence Forces.

In a formal ceremony at the Ammunition Storage Site KULA in Mrkonjic Grad, Major General Bernhard Bair, the Commander of EUFOR formally handed over the Project Soteria Report to Lieutenant General Miladin Milojcic, Chief of the Joint Staff Armed Forces BiH.

Major General Bernhard Bair took the opportunity of “International Women’s Day” to address both the military and civilian EUFOR staff members on equality for all. COM EUFOR stressed the importance of recognizing and understanding the differing roles, responsibilities and opportunities that exist. He went on to highlight the extent to which actions and measures can be introduced to further promote the equality of opportunity for both women and men.
