The group of eight boys from ‘Safvet-beg Bašagić’ primary school in Gradačac, enjoyed a variety of activities in Holland’s capital city.
With football firmly on the itinerary, the group had a chance to visit FC Ajax training facilities, see a training session of the first team but also take coaching from trainers at the Ajax ‘football clinic’. They were also guests of FC Ajax for their league game against FC De Graafschap. Before the game, the boys from Gradačac enjoyed hospitality at the VIP lounge at the Amsterdam Arena. One of the boys managed to predict the correct scores at half time and full time, winning a signed FC Ajax football shirt and a chance to meet some of the players after the game.
In addition to the football related fun, the boys visited Haarlem, a beautiful city near Amsterdam, took a boat tour around the canals of Amsterdam, visited Amsterdam zoo and museums, and saw many things which enriched their experience of the Netherlands.
Representatives of EUFOR, including the Dutch contingent, were at Sarajevo Airport to welcome the children back from Amsterdam.
The trip, which was jointly funded by EUFOR, FC Ajax, AEGON and TEVA Pharmaceuticals, and arranged by EUFOR, was second prize in the 2011 EUFOR Soccer Cup. It is hoped that a similar prize will be made available in the 2012 EUFOR Soccer Cup which will be held later this year.
