A delegation of diplomats from EU Permanent Member States in Brussels that deal with Western Balkan issues, known as COWEB visited Headquarters European Union Force (HQ EUFOR) on 27 May 2016.

n arrival at the Headquarters of EUFOR in Camp Butmir, they were welcomed by the Commander (COM) of EUFOR, Major General Friedrich SCHRÖTTER. The members of COWEB were given a brief by J2 and also COM EUFOR providing an update and information about the current security situation in the country and the stabilization and association integration process of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). Contributing members of EUFOR ensure continued compliance with the provisions of the Dayton Peace Agreement and conduct capacity building and training tasks in support of the BiH Armed Forces. COWEB were also updated on the EUFOR mission and progression from Implementation Force (IFOR) through Stabilization Force (SFOR) to the current European Forces (EUFOR) including the current laydown in order to provide a safe and secure environment. COM EUFOR then gave his final thoughts before the delegation attended a light buffet lunch.

COWEB are responsible for issues concerning the EU’s relations with the Western Balkans region. The group deals with both general political and economic development in these countries as well as with the stabilization and association processes and regional co-operation.
