Major General Bernhard Bair, COM EUFOR welcomed Mr Sotirios Demestichas, Chargé d’Affaires of Hellenic Republic in Bosnia and Herzegovina, to the EUFOR HQ today, 30 June.
Mr Demestichas undertook an Office Call with COM EUFOR where he was briefed on EUFOR’s role as the military component of the overarching European Security and Defence Policy mission in BIH, EUFOR tasks and capabilities in support of BiH’s efforts to maintain the safe and secure environment. They concluded by discussing the continuing co-operation with the AF BiH in a number of areas such as training.
Major General Bair highlighted the important role that the personnel from Greece make to the mission and praised the quality of the Greek soldiers serving within EUFOR. Greek personnel are currently employed in a wide variety of tasks including the command of two Liaison and Observation Teams, in Ugljevik and Zvornik, and the provision of staff for the EUFOR HQ. In addition, Greece provides a number of Mobile Training Teams (MTT) that operate across BiH. The MTT are working to develop the level of expertise in a number of skills such as Communications and Information Systems and Armoured Infantry training.
COM EUFOR went on to thank Greece for their previous and continuing support to Op Althea.
