Major General Bernhard Bair, COM EUFOR and the French Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, H.E Roland Gilles visited the small town of Koprivna to present a prize from this year’s School Competition. Stojanka Borenović had been unable to make the journey to Camp Butmir, Sarajevo earlier in May to attend the official EUFOR School Competition Award Ceremony. Therefore, EUFOR decided it was important to deliver the prize to her before the Summer holidays commenced.
As sponsor of the prize, the French Ambassador presented Stojanka with her certificate and prize. H.E Gilles said, “I am delighted to have this opportunity to reward Stojanka for her creativity of thought and her skill of translating her ideas onto the paper.”
COM EUFOR and the Ambassador talked to the teachers and children of the school. General Bair congratulated the school on participating in the competition and hoped that they had enjoyed exploring the concepts of “Europe without Borders” and “Children of the European Union”. He told the children, “that they are the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina and that they must take every opportunity to learn and work together in order to create a stable, viable, and prosperous multi ethnic Nation.”
This was the fourth year in a row that EUFOR had organised the competition and the popularity of the event remained high again this year. Nearly 250 Schools from across the whole of the country participated and close to 3000 entries were submitted. Those participating in the competition had to produce a drawing or painting, a poster, a comic strip or with a group of friends, produce a photo essay.
