The Austrian Chief of Defence Staff, General Othmar Commenda, has conducted a two day visit to EUFOR.
General Commenda was welcomed at Camp Butmir on Wednesday by a guard of honour before meeting with Commander EUFOR, Major General Dieter Heidecker, to gain an update on the political situation in BiH and the Austrian contribution to the EUFOR mission.
General Commenda then attended a meeting with the Chief of the Joint Staff of Armed Forces BiH, Lieutenant General Anto Jeleč, together with Lieutenant General Jeleč’s senior leadership team.
Today, (October 23) General Commenda met EUFOR LOT house personnel, witnessed a display by EUFOR’s Multinational Battalion and British sub-unit, and was briefed by EUFOR’s Embedded Advisory Teams about their work with Armed Forces BiH.
Austria is the largest troop contributing nation to the EUFOR mission, with personnel in a number of key positions. Austria also provides EUFOR’s airborne medical evacuation capability, LOT house personnel and Mobile Training Teams to assist in EUFOR’s capacity building and training programme for Armed Forces BiH.
