IPU Medal Parade

On 1st October 2010, the EUFOR Integrated Police Unit (IPU) held a medal parade to honour those who have served in the mission, contributing to the safe and secure environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina by assisting in the maintenance of public order and security.

The Commander of the IPU, Colonel José Manuel Santiago Marin of the Spanish Guardia Civil, hosted the event where the guests of honour, the French, Romanian and Spanish Ambassadors presented the OP ALTHEA medals alongside COM EUFOR, Major General Bernhard Bair and DCOM EUFOR, Brigadier General Tibor Nagy.

10km Fun Run in Camp Butmir
Winner of the race, OR-3 Marcel Laza, with COM EUFOR, Major General Bernhard Bair.
On 1st October 2010, a 10km Fun Run was held in Camp Butmir. The race, which is held annually, was organized by the Irish Defence Forces contingent and was open for all military and civilian personnel within EUFOR and NATO Sarajevo. Whilst some ran the event in a competitive time others were free to walk to course. The winner was the Romanian (OR-3) Marcel Laza in a time of 32min 23 sec.

Some runners had the embarrassment of being overtaken by a Leprechaun (Sergeant Hickey) and, for a challenge, four members of the German Contingent ran the event in uniform and Respirators (Gas Masks).

Visit of Lt Gen Milojčić (AFBiH) to EUFOR
Lt Gen Milojčić tours Camp Butmir 2.
On 28th September 2010, Lt Gen Milojčić, Chief of Joint Staff of the Armed Forces of BiH (AFBiH), visited Camp Butmir in Sarajevo to discuss the possible future use of Camp Butmir 2. The camp is currently the home of the Integrated Police Unit (IPU) which will move to Camp Butmir 1. Camp Butmir is one of the 69 prospective immovable properties.

COM EUFOR hosts Irish Defence Minister

On 28th September 2010COM EUFOR, Major General Bernhard Bair hosted a visit from the Defence Minister of the Republic of Ireland Mr Tony Killeen T.D, accompanied by the Irish Chief of Defence Staff Lt Gen Sean McCann, who are on a two day visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina to meet the High Representative, Dr Valentin Inzko, and Irish Troops employed within EUFOR.

During their meeting COM EUFOR and the Minister discussed the ongoing political situation within Bosnia and Herzegovina, the forthcoming General Election and the contribution that EUFOR is making to the safety and security in the country. COM EUFOR praised the professionalism of the Irish contingent under his command.

On 28th September 2010, contingents from several EUFOR nations paraded for their EUFOR Operation ALTHEA medals. DCOM EUFOR, Brigadier General Tibor Nagy, and COS EUFOR, Brigadier General Günter Giesa, awarded the medals to EUFOR personnel.

Office Call on COMEUFOR by Austrian Study Delegation

On 27th September 2010 COM EUFOR, Major General Bernhard Bair, had an office call with a delegation from the Center for Security Studies, the PFP Consortium and the Austrian Ministry of Defence.  They are working on a study entitled “Faster Euro-Atlantic Integration – A Prerequisite for Lasting Peace and Stability in the Western Balkans” and greatly appreciated General Bair’s experience from working in the area.
