Masters students from the International Humanitarian Action Course of the Catholic University of Louvain, near Brussels, visited EUFOR on 6 April 2011. The Master course has a multi-ethnic audience and involves Universities from Europe and all over the world.
The 17 students are undertaking a study week in Bosnia and Herzegovina to investigate how an EU mission works in a post conflict environment. As part of that process, Professor Amine Ait-Chaalal Director of the Centre of Studies on Crisis and International Conflicts (CECRI), together with Professor Catherine Gourbin had organised a visit to show the students EUFOR’s role as the military component in the overarching European Security and Defence Policy mission.

Dr. Renzo Daviddi, Deputy Head and Chargé D’affaires of the European Union Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, paid his first formal visit to the EUFOR HQ today, 6th April. He was welcomed to Camp Butmir by Major General Bernhard Bair, COM EUFOR. Dr. Daviddi took up the duty of Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to BiH on 15th March 2011.
COM EUFOR and Dr. Daviddi engaged in a wide ranging set of discussions about EUFOR’s role as the military component of the overarching European Security and Defence Policy mission in BIH, EUFOR tasks and capabilities in support of BiH’s efforts to maintain the safe and secure environment and the continuing co-operation with the AF BiH in a number of areas such as training, ammunition storage and de-mining.
Mrs. Meddžida Kreso, President of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina together with the heads of the Criminal and Appellate Divisions of the Court, Mrs. Mira Smajlović, Mrs. Minka Kreho and Mr. Hilmo Vučinić, paid a formal visit to EUFOR HQ today. They were welcomed to Camp Butmir by Major General Bernhard Bair, COM EUFOR.
During their meeting, Mrs Kreso and Major General Bair engaged in wide ranging set of discussions about the importance of the State Institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the key role that they have to play in the future of the country. To serve justice is also a means for reconciliation. No crime must remain unpunished regardless of the ethnic origin of the perpetrators or the victims, in BiH or elsewhere, in the world. All agreed on the crucial need for the Country’s legal system to effectively function in order to enable BiH to move towards its goal of joining the EU.

During a two day visit to Sarajevo, on 27th and 28th March 2011, Kosovo Force Commander (COM KFOR), Major General Erhard Bühler paid a formal call on COM EUFOR, Major General Bernhard Bair.
COM EUFOR and COM KFOR engaged in a wide ranging set of discussions about the current security situation within the Balkans and the current EUFOR and KFOR activities and priorities. They also talked further about the plans that are in place for both forces to act as the others operational reserve.
